A few years back, I took my son with me...then 6 years old. Ahead of time, I called a few weigh stations en route and asked, if there would be any problems with that. They just said that they need to see a written permission from the carrier you're leased with and formally the kid needs to be restrained with a seat belt while you drive and that's the challenge...So I took a child car booster from our personal car to raise him up on a passenger seat but much time he spent in the sleeper playing around there anyway. Generally, it is up to the carrier's insurance...some don't allow riders of less than 12 years of age, others don't allow any at all. I had an inspection in UT on that trip and they did not say/ask anything - offered him candies though. I am not sure, if he liked the experience too much, as he never asked me for any repetition and I can't say that I am very disappointed about it either.

Best to know your route and call the most critical scales to see what they have to say. But they did not seem to mind when we traveled.
BTW: I've always had good experiences with UT DOT scales personnel...always nice and courteous. Wish all of them were like that.

I had a couple kids and the wife 2000 miles each way.
Weigh station they got in sleeper and closed curtain.
No seat belts in a school buss.
    Just saying.
    Good luck.

Lots and lots of Gorilla Tape. 4 year olds are naturally sticky, but you will find Gorilla Tape immensely helpful in getting the little blighter well and truly secured to the back wall of the sleeper.

Also useful when the whining and sniveling starts. Please use liberally before bringing him inside.

Yes, I hate, loathe, and despise children. No, I don't have any. Nor do I want exposed to your little germ factory.
