If its between min and max you're ok to go. The engine builder has determined that is its safe range. Personally when its halfway or less between the 2 marks I top it off.

You should add oil at one gallon intervals only, the reason is a lot off engines can use the first quart or half gallon quickly and then slow down after that. Look in your Owner's manual too.

It also helps to keep track of your oil usage when you put whole gallons in. When you just top it off a little bit at a time you don't get a good idea of exactly how much you are using.

I have never tried to take my engine oil exactly to the full mark dallops or dabs. I wait until it's down a peg or hole and add one gallon. There was a half gallon on hand for the initial just in case the angels got ahold of it after a episode of low oil.

For the most part all of my engines did well on oil levels being in range. I only had one episode of losing oil through a faulty fill cap during a big pull near fishertown. Three gallons took care of that problem. The rest of the time I was employed at that one outfit, I carried 5 gallons at all times.

I can't speak to that particular engine, but anywhere between the full and add should be fine.
I am more of a Cat engine guy myself, and the older cats don't seem to like being right to the full mark. My company rule is when doing their oil level checks, drivers do not add oil until down to approximately 1/4 of the way above the add mark, and then dump in only 2 liters, bringing it up to around the 3/4 mark. My experience maybe different than others, and is also for older kitties.

I wait till it reaches or almost reaches the add mark and put a half jug in. A lot of jugs come in 5 quarts now anyhow. When you have to buy another jug you look and see how many miles it was since oil change, easy to keep track either way.

As long as you don't change the fuel filter and oil filter at the same time it's ok.

Bad things happen if you don't run the motor in between the "two" filter changes.
