Hello ya'll, I have a question. Might sound a little silly but what exactly is a solo adjusting 10 speed direct transmission? I know it is a 10 speed with a clutch and all but what does the solo adjusting mean?

There is a solo clutch that is supposed to be adjustment free. Could that be what you are talking about ?

Sounds like somebody was writing something in order to make it simple but ended up making it complicated.

Figure they mean self adjusting clutch with a 10 speed direct drive (as in no overdrive)

It is a direct drive 10 speed with an Eaton Self-adjusting clutch that is marketed as a Solo Clutch.

Sometimes depending on the driver, they can need adjusting.

By the way, the direct drive tranny is better for fuel mileage.

This goes to show that even after 35 years, I still learn something new all the time.

Because with an overdrive unit, there is a cost of energy in the gear set, direct drive doesn't have to have those gears to change the ratio - it is direct for the most part.

When you gear the truck right with the right rear end to the engine and a direct drive trans, there are gains made in mileage.

It depends on who put the thing in and how the driver drives the truck. When I got my first tractor, I had a new clutch put in, and within a year, I had to replace it and replaced the driver - he was always riding the clutch, starting out in the wrong gear and he heated the clutch up so much it warped the pressure plate.
