I would like to know how I could train better freight brokers entering the industry. What do you think are the most important things for them to learn?

    Thank you.

DO NOT use DAT/ITS rate data base for quoting freight rates....both to Your customer and carriers ...

They NOT reflect real cost of operation, especially for O/O or small/medium carrier.

    Chris G Thanks this.

I assume that rate reports coming from large carriers or they total lie...

Sorry, I edit last post in meantime.

Don't promise a shipper I'll be there yesterday and the receiver that it's a first thing in the morning delivery when that's not what we agreed upon. I don't like looking like an idiot because of your white lies, it's my name on the door not yours. If I have to lose business I'd rather lose it over honesty than unrealistic broken promises.

Agree 110%. The input data is way too suspect but it seems like many brokers have this unwavering faith in DAT on that one. Hopefully for them they don't find themselves committed based off bad info like that and get burned. Best is to ask a carrier what they need. It either jives with what the customer is willing to pay and all 3 parties are satisfied or it doesn't and everyone goes their separate ways.

MSS, Chris G and Cottonmouth85 Thank this.

If you're taking more than 7.5% of my gross we're not 'buddies'. I realize we both provide a service and both deserve to get paid, and I appreciate your service if it's done with honor and mutual respect.... but my Kenworth and diesel cost alot more than your computer and head set, and it's the one taking a beating to do the work.

Start thinking of taking more than 10% and if it's in my main lane... your customer might become mine.

    We won't get into fsc.

Ougigoug and Chris G Thank this.

You really ask this at least twice a week.

I think you're hoping someone will suggest something that you can actually put into play.

    It's getting old.
