What is taught at a trucking school, besides how to drive, log books etc.?(and by the looks of the abilities of some students out of some schools, that term is used loosely.)
Do they teach you:
1.About your appearance as a driver?
2.Truckstop, CB, shipper/receiver, driving ettiquette?
3. Simple things to fix on a truck to get you down the road?
4. The appearance of you truck and what little things can tip the DOT to inspect you.(I.E. Junk on the dashboard, lights out, dirty truck, etc.)
Just wondering what they teach these days.
What is taught at a trucking school?

Just enough DRIVING SKILLS to pass the DMV test!
Nothing more....often less actually! -
yep if its in the book they show you where its at, if its on the driving test they show you how to do it. as for all of the stuff you need to know to survive your on your own.

I'm going to AIT in Phoenix. We learn how to parallel park, blindside backing along with docking... proper left and right hand turning along with proper road manners.. following distance, etc.
We are also taught to try to park downwind if we have livestock and to park away from other truckers if we drive reefer.
We are taught how to be professional should an accident or collision occur.
We are taught to stay legal, yet take advantage of opportunities to rest/shower/eat.
Sure... we go over logs, how to drive basics... blah blah blah, but I'm happy that we also focus on actually being a professional driver, even though we are technically unskilled labor.
My instructor has over 5 million miles under his belt. One hell of a guy and he's always sharing the good/bad things that he's run into and how to handle things.Ducks Thanks this. -
Let me change into my mud waders and we can start over....just so I can get a real grasp of the situation!123456 Thanks this. -
Tap dancing. *nods* So you'll be able to take part in the dance contests at the Flying Js.
I'm probably going to get a lil msg from Mastertech for this one.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
From my experience with those that do care: No, but they are willing to learn.
IMO, maybe the school doesn't teach it, but it you give a darn about anything in life, including yourself, you're willing to learn the rest on the job from those with experience. -
It isn't tap dancing.....it's the Hokey Pokey!
You put your right turn signal in,
You put your right turn signal out,
You put your right turn signal in,
And you shake it all about,
You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.
2) left turn signal
3) 4 way flasher
4) sight side
5) blind side
6) pre-trip
7) lot lizard
But I just couldn't resist.......classic!!!!!!!!! -
In school you'll be exposed to 10 times more than you can possibly learn but that will be less than 1/10th of what you'll find that you really needed to learn. Good luck!!

Now that is complicated stuff right there!JustSonny Thanks this.
