My son bought a few used trucks that reeked of smoke , a kid that works in his shop use to detail cars for an insurance company ( dead bodies ) and he tears the interior out , scrubs / steams everything and lets it dry outdoors in the sun , be surprised the residue that you find on the interior metal of a cab after the upholstery , insulation is removed.
When he is finished there is no smell of anything in the trucks. They bought a ozone generator for REFRESHING the trucks as he calls it

I was thinking about the original question.
What's the attraction to peterbilt's?
Then I thought about it many other ways.
What's the attraction to many things?
Why would someone buy a Cadillac Escalade vs a Chevy Tahoe?
Why buy an iPhone vs an android phone?
iPad vs windows tablet?
Hollister shirt vs a shirt from Walmart?
Wranglers vs rustler?
Because people want what they believe to be better quality or superior in their opinion.
A Cadillac and Chevy are both made by GM yet people buy an escalade for the name, or for the status of saying "I drive an escalade".
People want choice, but people also want "class".
What's classy for one person may be just an over priced name of the same thing they want.
I really started thinking about it while looking at gaming laptops. (I play lots of pc games, and want something to play while I'm on my 34 hour resets)
I was looking at Alienware (high performance, high priced gaming computers)
Everyone says, you can buy an Asus laptop (just a different manufacturer) with the SAME exact hardware in it, but for $1500-2,000 less.
I'm going to buy an Alienware, because its more appealing to the eye, and I just want to be an owner of one.
That's the main things I've seen for the whole Pete vs other make debates. You can get a long nose Pete for example, $70k. Then you can get a classic XL, specd the same as the Pete, same sleeper(size) and everything, same miles, for $40k. I would pay the $30k difference of having a Pete. That's just my personal preference, because while they do the same job, they are two COMPLETELY different tractors, in my honest opinion. -
I choose my trucks the same way I choose my girlfriends; by their looks.

Now, if I would go broke with the Pete vs making a small profit with the freightshaker, I'll go with the freightshaker. But if I could net $100k a year with the pete vs $150k a year with the freight liner, I'll take the Pete because its what I want to drive.

Just like when I was on the farm, people would say John Deere's are too expensive and buy other brands. But when it came time to sell them, it was a whole different game. For example, we bought a brand new 1973 John Deere 4430 tractor for $14,000, we sold that tractor in 1993, with over 5000 hours on it for $16,000, and it looked as good as the day we took it off the showroom floor.
I also get dealers that see my truck going down the road, call me and want me to come and trade it in because they know there is a demand for it, my buddy, who has a similar spec Classic XL, doesn't have that problem.MJ1657 and DrtyDiesel Thank this.
