Like you said it's a matter if your preference. I love the feel of a Pete, but I like smaller places. A lot of guy love the room but I don't care for it. It's just whatever a guy likes. I've never pulled in somewhere and heard "Man that 379 is ugly" I'm sure some guys think so but I've yet yo see it.

I have the vnl780 but, I love the looks of the w9L and would have bought the t8 if it wasn't so cramped. Now, if you don't mind the lack of the interior room you'd love the t8. When it comes to Pete's - I never really cared about Pete's, I think that the modified 9900ix will give you more for the money. Me personally, I wouldn't by either one, unless there was nothing else available. I will tell you what would give the paccar run for its money, in the way it already has: vnl with the longer hood, just like the vt8 has and the availability of the cat-for the purr lovers and/or the 600 hp isx :).

Like the traditional look of the Pete but the Coronado grew on me too but in the end I have decided to go with the Western Star because of the Detroit and the space in the cab. Since I pull flats, I also like the look of the midroof xt that they offer. The other reason is that we have an 01 star that just hit the median and one of the emergency vehicle crossings and nothing BROKE. It did bend the front axle but nothing fell off the truck at 65 mph. That was enough to convince me about the Western Star. That and we have a local company here with a large fleet that is all Western Star with over a million on every truck they sell. The only reason they are selling now is California. With all the dump and cement trucks that I see being stars, that has to say something about their durability. Yeah they are owned by Diamler, but then so is Detroit. Oh and not getting a cookie cutter truck is something also.

I see a lot of the older Pete's now have a bunch of miles. Even the 07s are getting up there. 03 and older usually have well over 1m and some getting closer to 2m. If I were to buy an older Pete I would be concerned buying a truck that already has a ton of miles. Many of them haven't had a rebuild or already have significant mileage on the rebuild.

    Thoughts?

My buddy has a 07 Pete and had the power turned up on it. Just cracked the block on it. Less then 700000 on the motor. I told him to buy a freightliner haha

As long as the block's good, rebuild it again.

In Pete's defense , in less it was the MX engine , Pete did not have any involvement in making the engine. And the MX they had little involvement in it. Rebadged Man engine , if I am correct?

If its an 07 it isn't a MX engine. They didn't start making them until 2010.

A lot of people do not realize that the truck brand had nothing to do with the drive line in till the last few years. Same engine he was referring to , would been offered in a freightliner. And block would have cracked no matter what truck it was bolted in.

We used to take the rack screws out and put them in the ashtray. (If you don't know what it means look it up) But you had to watch the pyrometer to keep from burning them down. We turned them up and let them roll but you half to be careful.
