I went to school in Winfield (just north of Kelowna) and had a school tour of the factory in the early 80’s. Close family friend started there when factory opened and retired upon closing….

Now compare it to the 2001 FLD my boss kept and it's a big difference in quality. Much less rattles and seems like it's built better. I'm not saying it's perfect but way ahead of the Century and Columbia that came after the FLD. Plus the early Coronado had the same cheap dash as the Century.
I haven't driven anything newer than that 2005 Columbia so I don't have a clue about the modern trucks. -
I did over 10 years driving this company truck and enjoying it but it's not perfect. 1995 W900 on 280"wheelbase on the antique AG100 suspension and zero air ride cab. There's no legroom and rides kind of rough depending on the road and if my trailer is air ride.
Now that I returned to work after 10 months off due to a work injury I got into a 2004 short hood 379. It's a lot more comfortable with the air ride cab and Pete Air Leaf. Plus easier to get around with a shorter truck. 10 years newer than my old truck but not perfect. Random water leaks when it rains and the doors don't seal correctly despite changing all the gaskets.
I'll probably keep driving it since it's way more comfortable to get around. The one drawback is the ELD but I've learned to get used to it.D.Tibbitt, Deere hunter and SmallPackage Thank this. -

I like the 49X. Its about the only truck on the road today that actually looks nice. Gotta be a heavy spec daycab though, sleepers look stupid.

As others have mentioned the drive train on most trucks are the same. Pete’s and KW’s have a thicker floorboard than contributes to the tighter cabs with less rattles and squeaks.
broke down plumber and Texasgordo Thank this. -
The drive train isn’t 100 percent of the truck. Absolutely the rest comes down to personal preference of what you can and cannot live with. A big peeve of mine may not mean #### to another. For instance clutch pedal. A hung clutch and brake create ill tempered ness outta me.
That said when they moved the brake valves lower after the flat dash…..I guess I could learn to live with it….but I just assume see my brother married to a stank in fat chick.
I like my mirrors on the doors, old habits. The difference in an 87 379 and 07 make them an incomparable pair. The 07 is leaps and bounds more comfortable, quiet, just a better truck.
Back to the drive train issue the white Caterpillars in the PACCAR products were thought to be better by many. However they were the same engine as the yellow engines. Maybe they needed justification or just something to believe in.
If feels good do it, if she wants you to hit by all means hit dat m’fer. But telling a guy how to spend his money or run his dog is a waste of breath.TripleSix, MACK E-6, broke down plumber and 3 others Thank this.
