There's ample options that pay 2 to 4x what you're making.
If you're close to an urban area, like mobile, Huntsville, Birmingham, or Montgomery, look into gas hauling.
Easy work, excellent pay, home daily

 

Not saying anything these other driver’s haven’t already said. Just reinforcing the thought of that pay is way too low.

It depends

He is talking after taxes, so gross is probably about $800. If he is working less than 40 hours a week that's not bad for Alabama.

The hard part about talking local wages is making apple to apple comparisons. There is such variation in hours, work type, local income levels, etc.

 

My guess is he works near Tuscaloosa/Vance, AL on the Mercedes or Nissan account. I worked on the Averitt Nissan account near Smyrna, TN

 

His account could be working 4,5, or 6 days a week, depending on the auto factory and parts availability.

 

What are you making hourly? That’s easier to tell if you’re being shafted.
