Thank you all so far..It looks like my biggest question now is what kind of phone???
With all the electronics in the trucks now...Truck gps..etc...
Is it overkill if I purchase the latest and greatest....I am kinda old school,I know nothing abt those apps. things and I have no desire to pay monthly for things like g.p.s. or apps. on my phone because I am plannig on buying a Truck G.P.S. when I go solo. And do I really need internet service on my phone..I have a laptop.
I know It sounds stupid to ask all this but when I go to school I am planning on keeping my questions there mainly about driving...I think thats is the smartest thing to do. K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid.
Thanks -
With everything going on today with electronics a good smart phone is a valuable tool. I like the service I have with Verizon with good coverage just about any where. I would look for a Smart Phone that is 4G capable. The New Droid Bionic is coming out next month, if you can hold out, I would wait for that one. It is rumored that you can buy a docking station with this phone and just about have a laptop with it.
There are a lot of free apps out there to help truckers out too. One other thing, some apps that are free on a Droid Phone are free where with an Apple phone can cost you money too.crazy4chrome Thanks this. -
I have had great luck with verizon,,I have one of the rugged phones and have never had an issue

I have an HTC evo with Sprint and I like it but my bill is simple. One phone simply everything for like 129 a month. If you are going to run west of Denver at all you would be better off with Verizon and the HTC thunderbolt is verizons version of the evo. I've never talked to anyone with at&t that is satisfied with their service

the kind of phone you have is truly not material. Stick with your old flip phone and start driving. I have an almost 4 year old Motorola Razr. So? It works great, I can't kill the dang thing. It has fallen out of the truck more than once, I tried to drown it, dropped it walking, stepped on it, and it keeps on ticking.
While a smart phone would be nice, I don't feel like getting a more expensive plan that includes data.
I have AT&T unlimited talk for 69.99. Keep your phone, buy a new one once you start earning money.
Or go to Straight talk by Walmart. 45.00 bucks a month prepaid, runs of Verizons network. -

Here we go.
I have AT&T right now with a dumb phone. That brick has gone through hell (literally into burning buildings) and has come out fine. Smartphones...not so much. I will be dropping AT&T soon because Verizon is cheaper for what I want to do.
Go into each store and talk to the people. Ask questions and you will get a feel for their customer service. Go with the better customer service.
For phones, you should pick one that just feels right. Your fingers need to be able to push the buttons without pushing all of the others around it. Screen size is an issue, how big do you want your phone to be? Do you want real keys or do you want keys that appear on the screen? Iphone or Droid is a hot topic. Personally I am going to go with a droid because more apps are free and you aren't treated like a child. Iphones are a pain in a ##### to get them to do something if it isn't made to do that function. Example: Last week my friend with an Iphone wanted a ringtone so he found it on the computer and downloaded it. It wasn't in the right format to work on an Iphone so he had to upload it back onto the computer, change the format, re-download it for it to work. Another friend with a Droid downloaded the same ringtone and was done if 15 seconds.crazy4chrome Thanks this. -
Check out StraightTalk.com. Walmart sells them, but you can get a better deal online.
Depending on the phone code, they run off of Verizon or ATT
CDMA is Verizon
GSM is ATT
$30 for 1000 text, 1000 minutes and 30mb browsing
$45 unlimited
It don't get any cheaper unless you use Grandpa's AARP phone.crazy4chrome Thanks this.
