Hi, I have recently become interested in becoming a truck driver and was hoping to attain some information on it. I was curious as to what is the best things to look for in a company, what you can expect to make when you first start out (take home) , and peoples favorite companies in general.
I am 21 years old so I am young but I have been driving since i was 15 and I have a perfect driving record. I saw one other thread where someone asked people to talk about the companies they like, but people got off on tangents and turned into talking about who they don't like.
Also, I am willing to drive "48 state" and I am not worried about being home. So please factor that into your answers. My main concern is money.
What is the best company to work for?

Starting out, you will make 250 to 500 a week realistically. Starting out, you have very few selections of "best" companies to work for. The "best" usually require minimum 2 years verifiable experience with a clean background. Starting out, it depends on what you want. Are you just looking to get the training and then move on, stay a year or two, depends on all that. Swift gets you in and out the door pretty quickly, but if you've read any of my previous posts, it's not a career company. I got what i needed from them over a period of 2 years and moved on, like 99% of all Swift drivers. Their tuition is 4,000.00 but you have to only pay a 150.00 sitting fee up front. After you've upgraded to your own truck after a total of 9 weeks training (classroom, range, road and 6 weeks with a trainer) you then have to pay 75.00 per week toward your education. After 13 months, you're paid back. Stay another 13 months and they pay you back, so it's up to you. I am thankful that Swift was there to offer me the opportunity, but I am ever so happy I don't work for them now. Good luck!

Starting out, you may be too young !!!

If I were your age and in your situation, and living where you do.....
If all that were the case I would do Central Refregerated again lol. If you are not too young.
They have training right in Fontana, and it is not hard for them to get you loads there for your home time.
The school you will pay back like 36 a week if I remember right, for 12 months. They are paying a portion of it the whole time. It actually comes out of your check as 50 dollars, with a reembursment.
They are not the best company around, but they are not a bad starter/ training company, and they are owned by the same guy that owns Swift. Just they are a smaller company and pull Reffers.
