What is the Best Kind of Trucking for Rural Driving?

    Thanks. I could go for a lot longer than that though. I prefer to just run out my clock and do 34s, and maybe just take one hometime per month somewhere on the road for three days or so. I want to live in the truck.

    I know you want to live in the truck but asking about rural jobs is asking about stuff that isn’t very live in the truck friendly. I hauled cattle with a guy who now dispatches for Mies. When he was a driver there he was getting 3500-4000 miles a week in 6 days.

    Doug Andrus has maxi flats and grain trains that would keep you west.

    Arlo Lott has maxi flats, hopper trains, and commodity trailers that would keep you west.

    Not sure what the schedule would be because a lot of the NW regional stuff is built around a weekends off schedule because the length of haul isn’t there to keep you moving over the weekend.

    like @Long FLD mentioned doug andrus and arlo lott...
    system transport has a PNW division..
    tece trucking out of missoula mt
    maybe cox trucking out of st george utah. but i think they are more OTR
    white mountain trucking runs out west. they are out of phoenix az. lots of cali-az tho
    theres a good amount of regional flatbed jobs up in that PNW area... but like fld said they are all bust ### during the week and get the weekend off type deals... also if you dont like chaining up that really isnt the right area to run.. because i have thrown chains in every month up there except june july and august lol but id still rather run the northwest then probably any other area in the country.. just my own 2 cents... its just really hard to find work up there outside of being a company driver.

    Thanks I'll have to check out those recommendations and get in touch. I'm sure some of them could be flexible to provide a weekend load going out of their usual area, and then find something back on Monday.

    Why do you prefer pnw over any other area?

    Would you really need chains if you're staying east of I-5 the entire time. Eastern oregon, eastern washington and nevada aren't that hilly from what I can remember. Only drove there a couple times though, so my memory is fuzzy.

    for me i just enjoyed the driving.. and the challenge of running that area. it really makes you a good driver especially during winter.. and i enjoyed the people up there... i dont know, for me it feels like home away from home more then any other part of the country... but i been out west my whole life so i dont do well east of i35

    and yes you are going to be chaining up all the time in that area... that is the middle of the rocky mountains

    I thought it was the great basin... could be some steep hills for all I remember though.
