I agree. And there is a lot of info in the front section. Length, weight limits, restricted routes, low clearance etc. It's well worth the money.

Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas, The large lamintated one. Current year or next year edition.
Forget the electronics for now. Learn to do it by paper map. That will make you stronger and able to identify potential conflicts with weights and low clearances.sevenmph, BoxCarKidd, Scottyboy and 2 others Thank this. -

My RM's a few years old, just about time to get an updated one.
Paper or plastic? Honestly, I don't think the laminated one makes sense for a lot of drivers. I spend 95% of my time on familiar roads/routes and rarely pick up the atlas. A paper should last more than long enough.
Starting out though you'll be (or will likely be) consulting it a lot. Laminated will hold up much better.
