Now with Roehl starting pay is .285 with 10 cents being tax free or .30 cents and being taxed, what is the best option for not getting screwed at tax time?

.30 and paying tax on it all. save you some math at the end of the year, and then you don't have to lessen your per diem deduction.

Either way you claim 80% of the daily allowance tax time. It's easier and better to do it on the .30/mile because you don't have to figure the difference of what you receive the other way.

Plus you have to consider the .285 which is actually .185 is what will show up on your W-2. That reduces any social security, disability insurance claims, unemployment claims, workers comp claims and 401K contributions.

Most people fall into the trap or are forced to take the so called per diem. All they think is they'll get more on their paycheck. Which is true for the moment, but it all works out tax time.

I'd rather have the bigger tax return and full access to the benefits I posted above.
Take the .30 if you can.

I'm currently on disability and since I was forced to take the per diem option, my monthly benefit is reduced about $140 month because of it. Something to think about. You're young, but you never know.

    mayoman69 and otherhalftw Thank this.
