I appreciate all your advice. I kind of agree paying for my own school is a good idea to have the options, I just read so many of the stories here about people that have the degree but no job. Maybe it will be better if I am willing to move etc., give me more options? I guess I can always go through the companies training later if my own schooling doesn't pay off? Or, will a company look down on me because they want to train me "their way?"

I assume the jobs in Iraq are for experienced drivers? How much training do they usually require? I have looked at the mining truck driving jobs as well, but it seems like those are real hard to break into and have to have experience. Has anyone here gotten a job overseas driving? How much experience do they usually look for?

I know what you mean about work life balance, but I am one of those "type A" personalities that if I sit for more than a few hours, it drives me nuts. That is actually one of the things that attracts me to this industry believe it or not, that I can be gone weeks at a time and work many hours. I actually may never want to retire because I don't know if I can ever slow down, but I figure when I get older it may be more appealing, that is why I want to have the money there to have that option. Maybe if I can learn the business, I could get into management and still have something to do without having to be gone all the time? Has anybody moved from OTR to a logistics or management role?

Iraq/ Afganistan jobs require a heart beat and the balls to go there lol. You will not be gaurenteed protection by the US military while there. Their job/mission comes first, if that means you get killed so be it, but they can and usually do defend civilian trucks as long as it doesnt put their mission in jepordy. There are plenty of stories and videos out of them getting shot and killed while the US Army drives away and doesnt even look back

I will definitely do some research, that is why I am starting here, I always learn more from the people that have actually done it than some book. I appreciate everyone's advice.
