Amen! But Im gonna do my best to change that. I work in the oil patch as a Yesterdays driver. Maybe we should start a Yesterdays forum to teach and educate this generation how and why the "olde school way". Who knows how much the newbies can teach us? God knows I havent learned how to walk or run with pants hanging off the back of my kness LOL

So, how do you account for the ensuing gripe feet when one driver talks about how, "this generation has no respect", and the rest chime in like a chorus?
The problem isn't that I don't see where they're coming from - I see it quite clearly. The problem is that many think it's okay to right off the bat snub someone who doesn't have grey hair just because. Then, they act shocked when they treated in kind. Which, from what I gather, is supposed to be a trait of "today's" driver. So, what's the deal? Is the line just becoming blurred, or all we all condemned to do the same as we age?
Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't respect those who came before me and what they did and the conditions they did it under, but the generations of my family which came before me also instilled the notion in my head that respect is earned and not given. If someone wants to act like an ### towards me just because they feel like they're entitled to... well, I do my best to treat others in the manner due to them, and I'm not perfect at it, but I think I do halfway decent at it... and that's exactly what I'll do in that instance, as well.
I'm sure there are many who won't like what I have to say, but it needs to be said.

    The difference?
    Yesterday's drivers are older.
I've heard this same line since I started driving in 1972.
I think we remember things the way we wished they were.
But one thing I will say...yesterday's drivers took more pride in the way they looked, groomed more and were proud of their jobs.

Respect for each other and ourselves......I think thats the biggest difference.....That goes for drivers , employers of drivers , and the customers they serve....In this , I , Me world we have today respect is a 4-letter word anymore.

How much of this is caused by the way of the Electronic Logs and the current HOS over the prior years?

You can make laws governing people , and restrictions governing business entities.....but you can't legislate people into doing the right thing ( showing respect for one an other) Using E-logs and HOS rules as an excuse for not doing the right thing and being a selfish jerk is being disingenuous Roadmedic. I may be wrong in reading the OP's question but , CondoCruiser hit the nail pretty much on the head with his post # 10. As much as it pertains to the OP's original question.

CondoCruiser stated that yesterdays driver would stop and help.

I just asked a plain simple question, not defending anyone. How much of the not stopping to help can be traced to the 14 hour clock?

How much is attributed to the EOBR monitoring device?

Use the thought process. Before the log HOS changed, it was not a problem to stop and help. Now, with them checking the logs to the supporting documents and the 14 hour clock, I can see why they cannot stop.

It's still using the Elogs as an excuse "to not get involved". I'll grant you that ambulance chasing lawyers and our litigious society have made folks cautious to help anyone they see broken down.... But , People "new drivers" if you will , just plain don't care anymore.....they've been raised/conditioned their entire lives to think that the world revolves around them and what "they're" doing. Companies take advantage of that mind-set too....making drivers think... they don't have time to stop and help.....making them think that stopping to help another driver or a stranded motorist can't be explained on an E-log report....excuses plain and simple. But decisions made because of a mind-set...not because the E-log would tell on them....
