And you are not understanding the regulation. No slips of paper are required at any time, even while in a dock. Go to the link and do some reading for yourself.

I had made the same misunderstanding about the 30 min break rule, my company uses e-logs. I had just came back to work after a few months of active duty training in the guard. I had thought if I took the 30 min break early and get it out the way, I wouldn't have to worry about it later. I was wondering why my clock still showed 8 hours. I called the HOS dept and they explained it to me. Paper Logs look good right about now. This 30 min break is hurt me because I'm the type that likes to make several small breaks, than drive a long time and try one big break. And I'm female so I have to use the bathroom. I can't pee in a cup while driving like you guys can. My total time for breaks including bathroom stops used to be around 30-45 mintues. Because I now have to take 30 mintues all at once instead of taking 2 or 3 smaller breaks, I sometimes feel I have to drive longer than I want to. I wonder if some drivers feel that way and will try to drive the 8 hours straight before stopping. Wouldn't that CAUSE MORE accidents?

You're not going to argue yet... you are.

Where does it say you are required to have written permission? It doesn't. Here's where your written permission has gone. It's no longer required.

Besides the fact the old rules had this little proviso:
    http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-07-12/html/2013-16687.htm

So, even though written permission was required, you didn't have to have it with you.

Even with the new law which obviously a lot of drivers do not know about including me as i'm old school, Motor Carriers are still having that form being carried in there permit book in the truck and /or being kept in the company files, this is still being done, The carrier I joined 5 weeks ago had me carry one in my permit book, also talked to a friend and he joined a company a year ago and he had to do the same thing, even though you are correct with the new law, Motor Carriers are still doing the CYA out here......
