I was saying I currently get 10 mpg, I don't expect it stay at 10mpg hauling 80k lbs. I would even assume 5 mpg pulling a box.

depending on weight and where in the north east that’s very possible.

I always add 25% to fuel costs anyway.

Do a breakdown of current total cost per mile on what you have, ignore your profit, but add a salary for yourself. add a truck replacement cost (i saw you say you put 10-20% away as repair and maint, this may serve as replacement, but i tend to think it should be a fixed amount not a %, lazy math id say 300k per 3-6 years)

Once you have existing cpm cost, run your numbers for a preferred fixed $ amount profit based on some different miles, 50k, 75k, 100k yearly.

This will give you a range of $/mile targets, pick one youre happy with and haul nothing lower than that, and make sure to make that target miles too

You are asking the wrong questions. First there is no across the board avg. the avg for New England isn’t the avg for the southwest. The avg for cross country isn’t the avg for regional. I also think you are picking the worst possible time to do this. Things are on a downward slide and this model is going to get ugly. That said, you may want to look at the larger truck load carriers. Most have a power only fleet option. I personally think it’s a fool’s errand but it’s probably better than using the load board. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer and do truly wish you luck.

In fairness getting out of a car hauler isnt a terrible move on an economic downturn

That’s true. Especially with such a niche setup.

Yea, I'm searching for a monthly lot out of NJ to avoid NYC which is the biggest chunk of my toll bill. All the lots I call are currently full.

Try using DAT and look in your area. It will give you the last 14 day average on what you are looking for on rates. This will be the best area to look. Asking questions like this on here is not productive as it will not meet your true needs. All you will get is how much does it cost you to run answers and then mess with you if you don't know your numbers to the penny. Get on the board and get your answers for what you plan on doing. Or get on it and make a plan on how you can run that way.
