Added the little transformer from a RK to it and wired it to fit a 4 pin plug. (I didn't mod it, I had it done by a friend.) It is, without a doubt, the best CB mic I've ever had.
I don't know how......see above.
What is the problem with the RK 56 mic these day's ?

I still haven't seen the info I requested from our expert c.b.er's......
Yup Thanks this. -
Biggest problem with Telex Road King 56's are the Mic cords them selfs...The wires inside the cord are too small and apparently brittle and break easily at the pins where they are soldered on...
Last 2 or 3 I bought lasted less than 6 months before at least one wire would break loose from one or more of the pins inside the radio plug...
It could also be that they are not soldering the wires to the pins very good either, because one of the last 56's I bought had the fat/larger cord on it, but did the same thing...
If Telex is planning on staying in the CB Market, someone needs to shake up their Quality Control Dept...
IMO as of right now Ranger has the best NC Mic on the market with their SRA 198...
When Ranger first came out with the SRA 198 back at the beginning of last year, within the first couple of months of those Mic's being on the market people started complaining to Ranger about the Mic's sounding sorta muffled...So Ranger re-called all the ones that had not been sold and modified them to fix the problem, and if you have one of the first batch 198's, you can send it to Ranger and have the up-grade done at no cost...Least Ranger stepped up and did the right thing by fixing the problems with their product...I don't understand why Telex is not doing the same thing. I feel quite sure they have been made aware of the problem as long as it has been going on...Yup and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Telex ain't Telex,just like Chevy ain't Chevy
For those with the late model RK56's,if you will take the cord and push it thru
the stress relief as far as it will go and then super glue the cord at the base of the stress relief you
will not have issues with things coming loose on the mic end.
Its a simple fix and actually works!
FYI: Gorilla Glue* brand is second to none, regardless of what you use it on. -

I just bought a SRA-198 and am loving it!
It's a little "Odd" looking, but then it matches up to me very well.
Actually to be completely honest, the only problem I have with the RK-56 is that I have bought 2 of them and got 2 more in trade. -
I got rid of my RK and switched over to ranger mic's a couple mths ago, put rangers on both my radios, theyre a good mic.
