I pulled tankers for 5 years and never had a night or early morning appointment. Ran tankers 48 states and could usually get a full sleeper break before unloading, then have plenty of drive time left. I don't think I ever had an appointment before 7 am. Made feel lazy after pulling reefers for so long. Just something about reefer schedules I like though; maybe the challenge of it and the night driving.Dan.S, diesel drinker and SingingWolf Thank this.

I must be on a strange account because I rarely pull overnight reefer. Granted we do have night runs which are meat and produce but I usually pull dry grocery and frozen/dairy which are all ready to roll between 600 and 1800.
I start my day at 1000 (usually) that way I'm shut down before midnight. -
You must be on some dedicated account; maybe grocery stores. I was doing the coast to coast long haul stuff. Pick up, for example, on the west coast for a cross country delivery to some grocery warehouse on the east coast where the appointments are usually between midnight and 3 or 4 am.
I've done something like pick up produce in the Florida Everglades maybe on Thursday during the daytime and deliver at 3am Friday morning in West Virginia. That's considered a short run and you still have to really push to get it done.SingingWolf Thanks this. -
I'm used to getting up at 4:00 am. This is a capitalistic country we live in. Its always about the money. Other wise its welfare, and that is not my style.x1Heavy, Chinatown and SingingWolf Thank this.

I drive for Schneider on a dedicated Walmart account. So yeah it's probably the account. Also, I'm delivering to stores rather than warehouses and DCs.Chinatown Thanks this.

Coming up on first full year. 60k OTR flatbed. Quite a bit of oversize runs, which pad the stats a bit.
Many days, it really doesn't feel much like work.SplashDogs, UturnGirl, x1Heavy and 3 others Thank this. -
I've delivered to the DC's in several states. Did a lot of those to New York, can't remember the town, maybe Johnstown or something like that.SingingWolf Thanks this.

I understand being confusing for a while, but if you pay attention and do the job for the company trainer you get, it will go a lot better. I used to train all the new techs rolling into the dealerships fresh out of school. Its all about paying attention, asking questions and learning. Its not that hard. You pick it up pretty quickly. I once had to train a 17 year old girl. She would never listen to me. I can't how many times I made her tear the injection system back out of a firebird because she didn't listen to what I told her needed to be done. I trained another girl, same age. She went on to be a fantastic tech.SingingWolf Thanks this.

No,no you don't understand. Very often you have to flip over your daily routine. You may have drive all night and go to bed at 4 am and a day later reverse it.It would be too easy to just work regular hour whether it be night or day.Shippers and mainly receivers will never allow you that-)Very often I didn't sleep until in the door because I worried I will not wake up on time.
