construction zone, 2 lanes, 45mph speed limit clearly posted

8pm, no construction workers in sight

flow of traffic is about 65mph....20 over the speed limit

driving 45mph is obviously unsafe when everybody else is going 60-65..

i very rarely go over 5mph over the speed limit in a rig, i dont want to do it, especially in a construction zone, but i find myself in this situation almost every day since it seems like every interstate around my city is doing massive construction projects

so what do you do? drive 45mph and hope a prius doesnt end up permanently attached to oyur DOT bumper, do you go about 55mph which is 10 over the speed limit but a little slower then the flow of traffic, or do you drive 65mph (in your chromed out peterbilt 5 feet off the 4 wheelers bumper in front of you)?

i usually just go about 50-55 in this situation...i dont want to speed but you cant be going 20 mph less then the cars around you

I do about what you do, I go slow enough that any cop should be able to tell that I'm watching my speed, but fast enough not to screw traffic up too bad.

In your other post you were talking about how to get a CDL with a suspended license and how you drank non-stop for 10 years. Now your talking about speeding is no big deal if you don't get caught. I'm glad to hear you stopped drinking so heavy, but this ain't the profession for you with that attitude, at least not in todays world. Scroll down and read how truckers go to jail for causing an accident and half those drivers probably just made an honest mistake. We don't need more drivers like you to give attorneys more ammo. Trust me, I'm no saint but in a truck I watch my speed and I never tailgate cars.

If the posted speed limit is 45 mph.... Then it is 45 mph!

I'd be ###### if I'm paying twice as much for a construction zone speed infraction!! My money is sacred.... I'm not going to give it away freely.

I'd just stay within 0-5 mph of the speed limit. I don't buy the "get hit from behind" theory. If that was likely every Schneider, JB and Swift truck would be destroyed at least once per week, month, or year. I can't remember seeing more than 2-3 big truck rear-end wrecks in my career. Does anyone want to argue no truck is driving slower than any other truck or that they see a rear-end wreck every day?

To me this "speed up or cause an accident" idea, so common among drivers, is just one more of the old wives tales some drivers use to excuse what it is they want to do in the first place.

A few people may volunteer to pay your speeding ticket, don't hold your breath, but only a judge can take the points off of your license. Keep yourself out of trouble and turn off your CB if you might feel guilty about the sad tales Billy Bigrig wants you to hear.

Who will the bear go after? The one where the fees are higher. The big truck going 20 mph over. The posted speed limit is not a suggestion. Kind of like the ole saying if everyone jumped off a cliff would you do the same?:biggrin_2556:
