Approximately how much money is a pretty hefty ticket?

Yes but in my hypothetical example the 5th wheel already is all the way back.

We’re not supposed to correct for grammatical errors but given the OP’s post history I can’t help but ask isn’t EZPass for tolls and Pre Pass for scales? If this gets me suspended so be it. Words do mean things and are important. I for one have never seen ANY lights on my EZPass. Just sayin’

I am talking about bypassing a weigh station without taking the entrance ramp into a weigh station at all.

I meant PREPASS, not EZPass. Good catch on your part, LTL Bull.

P.S. but whats up with the "given the OP's post history" remark?

Wisconsin gives an extra 1k tolerance per tandem, at least at the scale coming in from St Paul.

The DOT chase cars have computer readouts, they know if you weren't supposed to bypass. And they were all over the place in Georgia today too, fwiw.

@Cattleman84 on that note of Idaho, what is up with them putting up signs and calling every wide spot in the road their roadside crews set up at, and every highway shop has now become a "Port of Entry"?

They're taking all the fun out of it!

If someone is watching the screen in the weigh station they will know if you got the red light. And if they have chase cars there they can send one after you. They will ask to see your Prepass to see if you got the green or red light. There is a good chance you’ll get away with it if there are already trucks in the scale because the people inside will already be dealing with someone. But if you do get caught most states give you a “failure to obey traffic control device” ticket. Some states like Idaho have a car at every scale and the employee will come chase you down instead of sending a highway patrol after you. So I guess it comes down to how well you know the area you’re running in. But my personal rule is to not get anywhere close to a scale when I’m heavy. I stick to the backroads.

Also a good rule of thumb is to only break one law at a time. So if you’re heavy it’s best to mind your manners when it comes to everything else.

If 5th wheel is all the way back how are you not overweight on the drive axles?
