NY always has a lone chase car at the end of the rest areas/coop. They'll chase you every time. You have a better chance running a jersey coop than NY or PA.

Best answer is A. Follow the rules or B. Go out of the way to dodge em but be prepared to be reamed a new one if caught

Sure. There is this wonderful new technology called a radio. The officer at the scale can talk into it and give a description of the vehicle that just broke the law. Then, magically, every other officer in range can hear exactly what the scale house officer said.
I dunno how this wizardry works, but it's awesome magic hearing voices come out of thin air.

Because you followed up with this post, and yes the scale houses do have chaser cars and do relay bypass violations to highway patrol. That's why the prepass lights will blink and gradually decrease in frequency over a 10 minute period. So when the cops pull you over they can see what color light you got if you claim that you got a green light. But they already know if they're pulling you over.

The former driver never got a chance to get a ticket because he was immediately fired. The poor score stuck with the company for over a year and the rest of the drivers paid the price for his stupidity.

I had a truck recently that got loaded, went to scale, and it was 3,000 over on the drives. Went back, they reworked, went and scaled again and it was 1800 over still. Went back, and they were closed. It was about a 400 mile run. We ended up picking our routes carefully and avoiding scales. Waiting 16 hours to rework after already jacking around for hours wasn’t an option. This shipper is now blacklisted.

Always try and be 100% legal and give it a real effort. Sometimes, you gotta just make things happen.

You have to be real careful with that nowadays. On I-10 in FL there is cameras at the exit before the scale, they are wired to the scale house just up the road. I forget the mile marker but it’s near the Alabama line

At any wide spot in the road where the DOT or State Troopers set up shop, not one has ever paid any attention to my steers. If they're using portables, almost every time, they've only checked my drives. Once, they checked the tandems instead.

If I know one of my weights are out of whack (which doesn't happen very often) - I'm not going through a fixed scale just looking fer trouble, I'm going a different way. Figure Gods telling me to see some new scenery today.

It's very possible to overthink or worry too much. Get a'rollin little dogie.

I never knew that, thanks for the heads up. I rarely run that high these days, but still good to know.

Depends on where you are. I was in Maryland, did a trailer swap (rest area) and before I could get to a scale I crossed a weigh station. Overall weight was under. Trailer axle was 540 lbs over. Received a ticket for $54 and a level 1 inspection. No other violations. Told to slide tandems and go on my way. (Rookie yr, 1st & only ticket)

I no longer will accept a trailer swap without a scale ticket.

You’re right, depends on day and cop/weigh master. I’ve been 1400 over on spread tandem but 4K under gross and got a green light in TN
