Just called on a load valley, ne to whiticha, ks with a stop in topeka. Rate is $450 no negotiation what the hell is wrong with people? The rates drop for flat in the winter but come on .73cpm for a 2 stop load? What is wrong with people hauling this cheap stuff?!?! Hell wouldnt we all be better off sitting or deadheading out and letting this crap load sit there for a few days and let the broker sweat a little bit? Oh wait thatll never happen because some two bit crack pot will come by and gobble that up to get him back home. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THERES NO SUCH THING AS A BACK HAUL?!?! And running back home for about the same as going down? Alright my rants over.
What is wrong with some people?!?!

Well I feel you and have gotten into this on other threads. But that market has been that soft for years. OK, not THAT soft but in the $1 - $1.25.
Most companies that will take that have had someone else pay the extra needed to haul that freight. If not, then you really do have a problem.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Best thing to do is file that broker under the do not call list.

Because a large percentage of the industry does not run on a load-to-load business model the fight over cheap freight is meaningless. Not going to bother with the math, we should all understand how averages work.
SHC, MNdriver, DrtyDiesel and 1 other person Thank this. -
True average is what a lot of people go on. But the problem you can only haul cheap for so long before your average starts going in the toilet. Some company driver will probably call all us O/O's a baby about these cheap rates but they don't care what the truck makes as long as they get their .35/mile. It's just pathetic but like SHC said now the customer has it in their head that that's ALWAYS the rate. Wait till summer rolls around and they got 100 loads and no trucks to cover them wonder how they'll feel about $1000 on 300 miles.
volvodriver01 and BigBadBill Thank this. -
This is one of the reasons I don't run my own authority anymore. Leasing to a good company with their recorces working for you makes a tremendous differance. I've been looking for a good load myself for a week just fooling around on the computer. Called several early this morning and they were either gone, or cheap.
After my people came to work this morning, I had 2 good offers and they ain't cheap! These are loads that never see a "loadboard" outside of the company.
In my experience just running off of "loadboards" in general population now-a-days is a looser 90% of the time. JMODrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
As SHC said the load is that cheap because they no someone will take it. But that load is real cheap. I used to ##### and moan about rates alot untill i tried takeing a few loads at less than what my minimum rate was instead of deadheading and ya know what, my rate per mile increaded for all miles. Now i focus more on the big revenue picture instead of a by the load mentality.
BigBadBill, DrtyDiesel and MNdriver Thank this. -
That's pretty extreme, I know brokers aren't real good at math. But surely they understand that if fuel costs $0.68/mile. i mean, they may not 'get' that we have a lot of expenses in addition to fuel, but surely they know we have at least 10 cents on top of fuel, right ?? IDK, I think the problem with the world today is nobody takes anybody out back and beats the crap out of them anymore. I mean, a broker posts a rate like that really should expect to be punched in the face repeatedly.
I've been getting offered rates in the $1.30/mile range all day to haul from IL to PA. They keep saying, "I don't have that much in it". Finally, the last one I says, "Well, I DO have that much in it ! I have that much in it before I even make a dime. YOU negotiated the rate with the shipper, so which one of us is going to lose money on this load, ME or YOU ?" I don't think she followed my logic, but at least I said it.
