A friend of mine was a mechanic at WM, then decided to drive. He lives in the Detroit Metro Area, he said it was a great company, but he wanted to drive big trucks.

I went the opposite route... I was a driver and equipment operator for ten years before I became a wrench (hence the "EX-10 years", although I still do some driving on the side). So far, so good, although I took a serious step down skill-wise for this city job, and it's a bit up in a air whether or not I actually like this job.

Yard hostler at anywhere the companies insurance will take you. Self insured companies. A lot of driving jobs the big insurance companies frowns on drivers under 21.

Oh horse crap. It's made a whole lot of folks rich over the years! Just look at all the folks who grow tobacco, not to mention all the folks who sell or sold tobacco, not to mention all of the doctors and others in the medical community that wouldn't be needed without it.

Shoot, I smoked cigars for oh I don't know, probably 45 years or so, and I'm perfectly fine. Well, except for some heart problems that pretty near took my life, and definitely wasted a year or so of it.

Finally decided it was time to quit, just waited a bit long to do it, I guess.:(

But nobody really has the right to tell someone, (other than perhaps your minor child,) that they shouldn't use tobacco.

Just like nobody has the right to force you to use seat belts or wear a helmet on motorcycles. Oh wait. . .:p

Well, I'd think the benefits of working for a city as big as Denver should be pretty darn good. Not to mention the job security. I guess a guy can't have everything.

Go work for ups. Keep your cdl active. When you qualify start driving the box trucks. Once you do that put your name on the list to drive their tractor-trailers. I regret every day for not doing that.
