What Kind of Caterpillar engine did I buy???

as far as I know and I'm not an expert the 3116 and 3126 are the same and are mechanical injected, when they went electronics it was called a C7, I was told by a cat salesman that when they started, it was a 3116 but had a contract with GMC to put it on the Kodiacs and Topkicks, but in order to go to the open market a couple of years later they rename them 3126 so they can sell it to any other mfg.

is this truth? I hope so.

 

You bought a 3116 engine, Without pulling the valve covers or a picture of the air compressor side I wouldn't be able to state if it had the new electronic injectors or not. HP is usually 175 -200 HP.
