Hey all. I've been checking out the info you've given me on what you are using. So much to choose from!!! I hate decisions that require brain cells. I've only got two you know, being a blonde, and it's not good to get them sparking against each other!! LOL!!!

Seriously, you've all given me some great leads, and I'll definitely spend some time comparing the different laptops.

    Thanks all,

    T

I have an Acer Aspire 5000. Been toting it around 2 years next month, and not a problem one. It sits on my bed pretty much 24/7 open and turned on. Think I paid around $1000 for it at Circuit City.

The only notebook that can truly endure the vibration and shaking of a truck is panasonic's toughbook

I have an IBM Thinkpad T23 that was used for three years on a truck, it still works as advertised. Mine sat on the passengers seat hooked to a GPS, never failed. So I would say the above statement is not true.

Panasonic Toughbooks are very good in harsh weather and if exposed to water. Most decent laptops can stand up to the vibrations of todays trucks. The military used a lot of tough books on helicopters. They were good in dust in Iraq, but still needed to be cleaned and serviced regularly.

They are also expensive. I am going to start out with a $345 Wal Mart Acer I bought in November. Not much money lost if it doesn't hold up.

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to look at things the past couple of days as hubby has been home. Yahoo!!!! He left this morning though. Bohoo!! So now I'll get back to reading info on the different laptops. He thinks he wants a Dell, but he's not real sure yet. Wally World sells Dell laptops (big surprise) so I've been looking at those too. So much to decide on. Oh well, we've got time.

t wilson...Dell makes a very nice laptop for most peoples needs. Your best bet is get one thrrough Dell's web site, unless Wally World has what you need in stock.

In the corporate world Dell is the number 2 laptop in use, with the Thinkpads as number one.

I've got a Gateway MX 6455 that has been very durable outside of the AC adapter port breaking. Just be sure that you buy a protection plan with whichever machine you get for your husband.
