my shift key kinda messed up so im not going to use capital letters or punctuation. im wondering what flaws are noticed in most rookies? how can they be prevented? i read the whole bumper to bumper book twice and im starting school in February. i feel like its my responsibility to be fully prepared and educated before i hit the road. i been looking around this forum for a minute. does anyone got any important links, websites, or videos that would help? i have done a lot of research i would just like to know what others find useful for continuing education.
What kind of manors or skills do most rookies lack?

spelling and respect for their elders
TractorGator Thanks this. -
Patience. Pure and simple.
Our society is moving faster and faster. Younger folks (younger than me, at 51) have grown up knowing instant everything....food, entertainment, communication....but yet when it comes to actually having to wait for something, be it standing in line at the convenience store or navigating through traffic, many can't handle it. They want it now...to be there now.
The physical parts of trucking are one thing. The mindset is another.
I wish you the best.Ex-Con-Trucker, kw9's rock, TractorGator and 2 others Thank this. -

thanks for the replies. striker so i figure the spelling is mainly noticed in the logbook? is there other situations where writing is important besides the logbook and personal notes? about the respect for elders im very respectful but if your being teased at is it disrespectful to not mess around back? I would assume it depends on the individual. I haven't been to much of a social person besides for business/schooling. seems like people get upset that i don't mess around back but i figure messing around wastes time which time is money.
48packard patience is a good suggestion not only for safety reasons but keeping your eyes on the prize. To me that prize is having a flawless driving record, stable job, freedom to some extent, and preparing for the best possible future in my choice of industry. My life has taught me a thing or 2 about patience.
vinsanity yes that seems to be a skill a lot of society don't take time out to learn. which leads me to something i been wondering which is what kind of time do these companies give you to make your plan of action? when you drop off your cargo do they give you another pick up point? does planning your route count as on duty time? though i would figure it out myself on free time. -
if your truck is maxed out at 62.4 and the truck in front of you is going 62.1 that its better just to bite the bullet and hang back then to go for a 5 minute pass attempt.

"Thanks" button will put your screen name onto the bottom line of that post.
The middle button with the quotation mark allows you to "multi quote". When you click on this button it will change to an orange background, then scroll to another post you wish to comment on and "multi post (" button) then continue with other posts to respond, and the last post you wish to respond to hit the "QUOTE" button. All the "marked" posts you clicked a button on will appear in the "text work box"...each will be separated by the words "quote/unquote" {"quote"-and-"/quote"}. The forward slash with the word quote means unquote, or end quote. Type in your response to each post after the "end quote".
If you don't need all the words or sentences in another post, but wish to respond to a particular group of words....you can highlight and delete the words you don't wish to be in the part you respond to, leaving the words or sentences you wish to address.goodchoice10 and TractorGator Thank this. -
I'm a rookie and I can make a list of things I see older drivers doing WRONG!!! But I'm being a good girl now so I'll just sit back and watch what everyone thinks us newbies SHOULD do.
