Let's say I go through a carrier that gets me to pass the CDL exam test. After they get my my CDL A license & they provide in-house training.
What kind of pay am I looking at for CPM?
How long would they keep me out on the road?
What kind of pay can I expect when first getting a CDL license?

If u use a company to get your cdl, then dont expect much in the way of pay. But if you want to make as much as you can, then you'll want to stay out for long stretches. Put going home out of your head.Last edited: Jan 2, 2019

Appreciate your feedback, just throw a figure at me, .35 CPM? New CDL drivers with big carriers usually out on the road 3 weeks out of the month?

Try Millis, pretty sure its 43 cpm during training
No pay for schoolPeterbuilt1013 Thanks this. -
FFE (Frozen Food Express) has cdl school in Chicago. Click here > CDL Driving School
One of their LTL division drivers posts on here often and has no problem making $1500 or more weekly and sometimes busts through $2000 some weeks.
CPM doesn't mean much; it's the accessorial pays that add up.
FFE even pays when you off duty and at home if you agree to be on call if they need you. I think one of their drivers made over $800 one week while he was home.
BigDog Trucker Thanks this. -
I'd say upper .30's to low .40's for pay. All companies preety much advertise out for a couple weeks then home for a couple days.
You could always try getting your cdl on your own, then you could do local work and not be locked in to a company. If u use a company to get your cdl, you become an indentured servant to payback them training you. -
Just seen a billboard here on 294
FFE is looking for local driversVic Firth, BigDog Trucker and Chinatown Thank this. -
Yep, Millis Transfer is good.
Also . CFI - www.cfidrive.com has cdl school in Missouri. Meals & lodging provided.
Carter Express has cdl school. www.carter-express.com - Think they run a lot of auto parts loads out of Laredo, Texas. -
U could probably expect around 30k a year with a mega thats if u dont go home every two weeks stay out 6 weeks minimum at a time... Longer u stay out more u make, when u put in hometime its always less money the week u go in and very small paycheck coming out of hometime....there some companies that pay more abd are better but i think in general all starting companies pay anywhere between 20k-40k starting out
