Best money and best home time would be to find a LTL carrier that trains. Most do nowadays. Even the worst LTL company is better than a mega OTR IMO.
What kind of pay can I expect when first getting a CDL license?

Starting in 2020 FMCSA won't let you get a CDL unless you are employed with an approved carrier.
-
Wow. That’s awful. Can’t fill driving positions and now there making it more difficult for new guys who want to get into this industry.
-
No it's not awful. It should be 10x harder than it is now to get a CDL. WAY too many fly by night CDL mills out here. Sadly though most of the "approved" carriers that will be on the list are the worst like CR England and companies alike.stwik Thanks this.
-
Yes, you do have a point there. Never thought of it that way. CR England should be on the banned list of approved carriers.

It's more than that. The school system is a failed process. Giving rise to CDL mills that have you in and out, which isn't in itself a bad thing. Its apparently FMCSA fix on making it more valuable to be a CDL holder. There isn't any behind the wheel or classroom requirement. You just need to work for a carrier that is enrolled in the program and they sign off that you are competent at driving the equipment.
