Illinois is kinda odd.
They have a T series trailer plate that costs like 2 grand. No one uses this one. Technically you could pull this with a truck plated for very little weight, with the idea being that the registration is made up for by the trailer registration.
The one everyone uses is the "ST" plates. This is like 25 bucks, but you need a tractor registered for 80k (for tractor and trailer).
Which, if you are running apportioned you are registered for 80k assuming standard 3 axle tractor.Dave_in_AZ and slow.rider Thank this. -
Also consider registering in Maine. Plates are long-lasting and cheap and they don't require you get close to Maine at any time.
feldsforever and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
slow.rider Thanks this.

Years ago every trailer in the country had a Tennessee tag.
But that’s changed in the last few years. -
A rectangular one will fit best in the bracket.
-
cardboard copy with "lost tag" in magic marker written on it will get you by, usually

It was Oklahoma and maine for a long long time, like since the 80’s
