I think the next time that crap happens to me I'm just going to pull out the 'ol fire extinguisher and treat the perp like he's in bad need of some fire resistant binaca. Either that or I'll toss him a quarter and tell to go call someone that gives a rats as*.

It seems as though no matter how much you flush the bowl of life there's always a turd or two that wont go down.

We all work too hard in this business to just give our earnings away to the first douche bag that walks up to us and gives a BS story about how much harder they have it than we do. Would I bust some moron in the head if he asks me for money? No. If he keeps asking me while I walk away from him and he makes an attempt to physically stop me and say, "hey man you don't understand!" Yes, I will. I have told countless people NO when it comes to me giving out donations and simply gone about my business. I have also knocked a few on their as*es because they have physically stopped me by grabbing my shoulder and telling me how bad they have it.
I'm not going to hijack this thread but I will remind you that when you go to put on your next maxi pad that you should remember to put it on cellophane side down. Butch up some will you?!

I abhor violence, but there have been times I did what I otherwise wouldn't have done, merely because someone else was behaving in a manner inconsistent with what you'd expect from a sane, nonviolent individual. (I kin talk purty!)
A guy in OKC jumped up on my running board, the light turned green, I yelled at him to get off. He reached in and started groping, and I didn't know what he was trying to do, didn't understand what the heck he was saying.

So, I started driving. He got scared and bailed before I could get out of 2nd gear.

If you are just starting out as a driver you are in for quite an experience. For the most part, us drivers do stick together but there will always be the exception. Just remember to be safe out here and learn how to say the word that most kids hate hearing when asked for a handout....NO! Keep your hard earned money in your poket and don't take any crap from anyone out here.

The biggest factor in the success of a scam is the victim's greed. If you think you're actually going to get a TV/DVD player for $40 (wait right here, I'll take the money and bring you the goods), don't be surprised when the guy takes off running.
If he has the box there, it may have some bricks in it... or worse, it'll be as advertised, but stolen.

So far, not a single 'broken down truck' story that I've heard ever involved anything more than a scammer working the parking lot for handouts. If you run across an *actual* broken down truck... yeah, more believable then.

It's hard, after a while, not to be cynical, but eventually you learn that some folks really are offering a real service or product. The "cleaning lady" in Barstow, who I'd assumed for the longest time was just a prostitute... really did clean trucks. Huh. Sheepishly, once I learned this, I went ahead and let her do mine.
Spotless, and none of my stuff was missing.

So, be wary of any offers/requests, but remember: there are good folks out there, who aren't out to rip you off.

Not quite on topic but I've been off the road for a few months now and back in the Big Apple and let me tell you, the Subway panhandling is about as bad now as it was durring the Dinkins years. (how's that "hopey changy" thing working out for you)? And they always seem to stop next to me.

They really get pissy when I tell them I'm unemployed too. One guy was pretty much threatening me at a station platform (where's the TSA when you need them?) Unfortunately for this ex-con I was out of cash (save a few bucks for breakfast at McDonalds) and I sure as hell wasn't gonna give him my credit card. I was in a bad mood and decided to instead of telling him "no" to tell him "My *donkey* is unemployed too, I bet you've got more than me."

Well so much for peacefully munching on my $1 egg mc-heartattack. Frankly I didn't know how far this would get, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. But I was more affraid that if the punching started, one of us would end up dead and I'd do my damnnest for it not to be me. (I don't think this fool realized that I might not be able to box him, but I could very easilly push him infront of an incomming train.)

Thinking of that had me shaking the rest of the morning.

BTW Old trick, if you go to your wallet for a dollar,,, they grab the whole wallet. I stopped giving to the poor after that SOB.
