I have always wondered what time of day is the best to drive. I hear that day and night both have there advantages and disadvantages to drivers.
The obvious to day is
Better visibility
more alert
and less chance of fatigue
But you have to deal with traffic weigh stations and DOT
Night time I assume you can put in more miles because of less traffic and less weigh stations but you have to deal with fatigue drunks and limited visibility?
So what are ya Solar powered trucker or a night owl trucker?
Me personaly when i used to drive non CDL trucks I loved driving at night. Got more miles in and passed just about every weigh station. plus I find myself to be very alert for a night time driver.
What kind of trucker are ya? (day or night)

Night Owl but I teamed so the truck was always moving

I like driving at night less traffic and not as many slow trucks to get in the way. And more scales are closed.

depends on where im at and what the weather is like.. id rather run at night if there is snow, but i like running day and night..

What kinda trucker am I?
Day, night, rain, sleet, snow, tornados, hurricanes................
Super Truckers don't care about that ####!lil may, panhandlepat, LandShark and 2 others Thank this. -
Whenever my 10 is up, that's when I run. My next 10 starts whenever my 11 or 14 shuts me down. In an ideal situation, it's the 11. Day or night, doesn't matter. Can't matter if I want to maximize earning.

however this time of year I do have a preference for daytime and try to hit rush hours as much as possible.

I strongly prefer daytime driving. Keeping in mind I normally start at 0400 local time. I know it's real dark outside , but I know the sun is coming and I'm fresh and alert. The advantages include always being able to pick my favorite spot to park, no line at the showers, no line at the fuel island while I fuel and pre-trip. And when I have to do a late night pick or drop I use the 8 hour break to extend my work day. Life is good in the sunshine.

Night time for me, but I am local and get paid by the load, so I can definately get more done within the allowed time without all them useless four wheelers in my way...
-
I have always been of the mindset that the load determines the hours to drive.
If the lazy arsed dispatchers would plan ahead of the trucks instead of behind them...perhaps a regular schedule could be worked out!Panhandle flash, red_eye and CBtalker205 Thank this.
