What kind of trucker are ya? (day or night)

Ideally I like to get up around noon, start at 2 and drive till around 2 or 3 am, but it hardly ever works out that way. I would probably prefer night, but find it hard to sleep during the day.

 

when i ran 48...it was when ever my time was to drive.

when i did line haul/dedicated it was all night time.

i prefer night time however.

 

well, as long as paper logs still exist, I'll work all three shifts...1st shift, unload, 2nd shift reload and 3rd shift drive.....but if I had my choice, I would run all night and deliver just as the sun was coming up.

 

how do you get to choose?

i have never had the luxury of deciding just when i will drive--like otter said--the load dictates when you drive and the quicker you get it there,the quicker you get another one

 

You'll find some that like night and some that like day. When I was local I drove on both shifts. They ran from 6 to 6 if you wanted an extra load or you could run 6 to 4.. At night it paid a dollar more per hour for shift differential, no traffic, no bosses, less trucks loading. The down fall was if you need repairs, it was cold in the winter, and more drunks on the road. When I was OTR I drove when I could.

my body prefers days.
i kinda like days, but do enjoy the advantages of driving at night from time to time, all the whacko conspiracy theroists on Coast To Coast AM keep me awake

 

I prefer to start around 0200 and stop between 1300-1600, depending on if I have a load to drop off/pickup etc... But it hardly ever happens like that. I never keep a set schedule though, it all depends on how the loads lay. Some days I drive days some day I drive nights. I love driving NJ/NY at night, cruise control the whole way (including the GW)

 

I drove from Boston to Winchester Va. last night except for the GWB it went quickly, night construction N & S had it buggered up

 

I am the old grouchy kind of trucker!!!

I don't do appointments anymore so i just drive when I want.

It seems like I am up around 5 am and done by 6 pm at the latest anymore.

Most of my pickups are 24 hour and allot of my drops are open till 5 pm it seems like.

But I am not hauling any kind of freight. So I don't have docks and all that goes with them to worry about either so that makes ones life allot easier right there.
