I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow at my local Lowes store for a delivery driver position that requires a CDL A license. I'm assuming it's a flatbed type truck because I'm pretty sure you don't need a CDL to drive their box-trucks. I was just wondering if it is the flatbed truck, how big/long are they and what type of transmission do they usually have.
I'm just anxious because even though I have a CDL A license, I have NO EXPERIENCE. I finished trucking school in June this year but this would be my first potential driving job.
I just can't picture what the truck looks like, I'm sure I've seen them before. Can somebody post a pic what they look like maybe?
What Kind of trucks does Lowes require a CDL for?

If it's a Class A then it's probably a big truck with a trailer and a Moffett or Piggyback forklift on the back. It'll have a double clutching transmission. Can you double clutch?
Both these are class A. I'd say them trucks deal straight with the contractors on job sites.

ya its a flatbed. sounds good man get experience and be home daily. problem 1 problem. if there short on workers in the store then you gotta work as a clerk or cashier and fill in. ya sucks. but o well you still can put cdl driver on your resume. and home daily prob weekends off. not bad

Sounds nice! Does anyone know if you have to drive the piggyback forklift? I don't have a forklift cert. and wanted to know. There is a Lowes and a Home Depot across from each other 5 minutes from me and I see there flatbeds just sitting there. I am curious to know!

Our local Lowes has a daycab with a (i think 48ft) flatbed often parked there along with a box truck.

Yeah, Lowes and Home depot both use a day cab twin screw with a tandem axle trailer, about 36' long. Some stores use a 10 wheeler. Might have a forklift on the back end.

its king of old ad but how much cdl A driver makes at lowes. i need some local job

The jobs like that pay around twice minimum wage for your area. So if McDonald's pays 8 per hour, you can make 16 or so.
The tricky thing about driving is that Moffit. IMHO. They do not drive like a forklift. It is real easy to damage the fuel tanks on your truck if you are not careful. You can also destroy a really sweet lady's garage door. If you want to know how I know these things, call my lawyer at Dewey, Screwem and Howe.

The Moffett lift and other flatbed mounted forklifts aren't a big deal. If you're halfway competent, you can operate one.
When I worked for Lowe's, the Freightliner pulling the flatbed trailer (with the Moffett lift) had a 10 speed, and the Top Kick straight truck had an 8LL.... that thing was grossly underpowered.airforcetoo Thanks this.
