It used to be common to see one log loads in the PNW.

    I'd try it.

Whoever said delivering in mines is like that. It's not like that here. It might be a winding road up to the mine but nothing scary. The ones I go to are super wide muddy roads. Just imagine Tokyo drift in a semi. Pretty fun.

On the flip side of that, once you start developing the skill set to run off road you start taking in stride minor issues like ice storms or blizzards on paved highways.

It's never the blizzard that ruins my day. It's the other traffic in the blizzard. Running off road is fun as hell. I've thought about logging but it's two and a half hours to get up there from my house.

Quit wishing and go do it. The link below is a listing for the Lincoln mill but on SPI's site you'll find lisitings for other mills as well.
They'd prefer logging or off road experience but they'll train you.
    Pretty good outfit.

Logging is now rated the most dangerous job. Most people that die in logging, die in a truck not on the ground. So if you can put 2 and 2 together you should come to the conclusion that logging truck driving is the most dangerous occupation in the US today. But is a good drive. It is just not paying as much as it once did.

That's true, logging changes the way you think about things.
To me, though, the most dangerous part of hauling logs isn't the off road work. Off road you deal with pretty much the same people, or group of people, every day. They're experienced and they're usually pretty good at what they do. You run the same roads with the same truck as long as the job lasts. Everyone understands the etiquette involved in figuring right of way and turnouts and makes an effort to get along.
The most dangerous part is once you hit the pavement and start interacting with all the four wheelers and, sad to say, a lot of the big rigs. To me, that's the scary part.
I can relax in the woods. Highway hauling winds me up tighter than a two-dollar watch.

I have lots of offload experience. Mud, dirt, all that on hills. Unfortunately, I'd have to move and I can't do that at the moment. Believe me though, I'm always thiking of a way to make it happen. #dreamjob
