One thing I will say is that once I make journeyman, I will make as much on a 40hr week that it would take 60+ hours to make at ups freight. If I were you, and being brand new to trucking and all, keep all your options open. The trades union are always looking for sharp, hard working guys to fill the ranks since alot of old timers are getting ready to hang it up. You can also get in with unions that have both a pension and an annuity, plus good health benefits and other perks. I was actually gonna go work for TMC when I got out of the coast guard last April, but then got in with ups freight. Then from there I went over to a construction outfit hauling heavy equipment then got in with the union. Just keep those feet moving bro. Dont stop til you feel like you achieved yourself a spot or job that you feel content with and will help you achieve nice things in life. Good luck to you bro.

Theres info available on the internet that can help explain the two-tier. I can only speak from the freight side, but I thought parcel had the same situation going on.

As flaswamprat said, the stockholders are driving that company like slaveowners. The only thing saving ups is they have such a large footprint in the game and nobody can really compete with them. Im still curious what kind of effect bezos and his monster amazon will have on ups if he decides to really get into the logistics game. I think ups sees that which is why theyre trying to diversify in other areas like pharma logistics and whatnot.

$2,000 net is pretty common on mileage run bids. But who was talking about net? I mean... everyone's tax situation is different. My 2k net is WAY higher than a guy with 6 kids.

I mean, we can look at it like this: if I'm grossing $1600, I'll net $1200 or so, give or take. But then I got my FREE insurance and pension contribution. So I "netted" $1200, but probably got an additional $400 or more in intangibles, so that was pretty neat.

Your compensation package is not just pay. It's salary + insurance + retirement + PTO. From what I can tell, UPS is hard to beat, given that formula.

With all due respect, everyone's net is going to be different.

AND feeder drivers, and for that matter some freight drivers sure as hell ARE grossing 2000+ per week. Scroll back up to post #135. i don't make that every week, but MANY freight drivers DO.
