First off, Thanks Jim. That helps. The reason I initially said I didn't know what kind of freight is because I'm still trying to figure out what kind is easiest to come by. I don't have any specifics just yet. For general discussion, let's say I need a load of stone weighing 48k hauled by flatbed from Ash Fork, AZ to Cypress TX. Thanks
What must I pay an O/O to get them to haul for me???

Don't know what kind of freight is "easiest to come by". So then your business is predicated on moving freight, whatever freight is "easiest to come by"?
So you're in the business of moving freight, and you're obviously not a trucker and, brokers won't give you all the information that you want...
(ahem) ..... so, uhh...... whose broker school did you go to?

Okay lets for arguments sake.. Take his fictious load of stone??
Is it palletized?? Is it bulk stone that requires an end dump? (A dump trailer in other words) or is it 1 BIG stone?? Is it finished, polished, and cut? high value marble or lava rock.. Is it oversized (Over 8' 6" wide)??? Do you require it to be tarped?
If it is Oversize then there are permits involved.. If it is multiple pieces not a lot of flatbeds can haul 48k.. You might have to cut the load to a more reasonable 46k... If it's 1 BIG stone that's over width.. It will most likely be best to ship it on a tri axle double drop / RGN that'll be both Oversize and Overweight... Big $$ there as compared to a regular flatbed load...
There are NO regular loads, guys like you try and raise heck that "someone said they could do this load for xxx$$" when I try and pick up a load and give them a rate.. You want rates.. Call a reputable carrier NOT a broker... Like Landstar, Mercer, Bennett, ATS, even Maverick or Werner for company trucks if looking for an end dump try Oakley.. That's the best advise I can give! -
your still trying to figure out what kind of freight is easiest to come by? if your trying to become a broker just say so. we will give honest answers or no answers, not faulse ones. you are purposely leaving important info out. that is fine.it is your choice. the easiest freight depends on the area. some area's move lot's of lumber, some move steel, some city's or states where flatbed freight get moved into with great rates, but cannot get a flatbed load out for more than .90 a mile.
do you realize you are like the defendant who wants their lawyer to get you off a charge, but you will not give him all the evidence so he can help you?Jimbo60 and Schmidtrock Thank this.
