Hi all, does anyone know what the ohms reading should be for a Cummins M11 Celect Plus engine? :biggrin_25524:

You can do the ohm thing. What you want to look for is dead spots in the sensor when you twist the dial.

The right way to test is for voltage. Most sensors run on a 5.0V supply from the ECM. Then return a reading to the computer for it to analyze.

Test the sensor in place with the key on.
It should have 3 wires. One's ground, most likely black wire. The other two are a 5.0V reference signal from the ECM and the other wire is the return voltage to the ECM.

Back probe with your tester, ground to black and find the 5.0V wire with your hot probe. Now move your hot probe to the other wire. It should read around 1.0V. Move the throttle wide open and it should read 5.0 V. Move the throttle open and close and the readings should be steady and you know it's good. Again TPS's get dead spots in them when bad and you'll see your meter jump.

    AUSSIE DAVE Thanks this.

CondoCruiser, I did the test and got about 4.6volts on one wire and on the return i got all negative readings from 0.00 to about -4 volts (yes -4v) is this correct or should the readings all be in the positive volts?? FYI also when twisting the readings on the pos side decreased progressively and on the neg volt readings they increased (0.00, -0.1, -0.2, etc) should i have pos volts on both wires?

The 4.6 volts is within range. The negative readings on the return wire are not acceptable. Are you using a meter with multiple setting options?

To properly test the tps, you would need 2 voltmeters. One meter connected to reference voltage and ground to ensure you are maintaining reference voltage and ground during the return circuit test. The 2nd meter connected to return voltage and ground. You would then watch both meters as you sweep the tps and watch for irregularities. Your reference voltage should maintain steady through the test.

Thanks Bender, my reference volts decrease as I sweep/turn the tps, it starts at 4.6v and progressively reduces down to 0.0v. I will get a second meter and do as u suggest. yes it is a auto adjust meter, thanks for your help
