Well, if we have a minimum charge per mile, then it wouldn't be supply and demand . lets say we charge per mile the same amount of money we pay for a gallon of Diesel. if Deasel goes up , our rates goes up. if diesel goes down, our rates goes down. Then, brokers would have to make a decision. they will not have other choice than to look for the best carriers, therefore this industry will clean up by itself out of POS drivers. do you know what I mean? companies with bad record, POS equipment will go out of business. mafia trucking companies will go out of business. it is just an idea.
What other owner operators will not tell you when you are new.

And how would shippers or brokers choose which carrier gets the load if three equally qualified carriers each have 5 trucks sitting and waiting?
So many unintended consequences would arise. Heavy Haul subject to the same rate? How about flats versus refers versus hopper bottoms etc. And who gets to determine what the rate will be?
There are so many reasons your suggestion would be a disaster.Another Canadian driver, D.Tibbitt, Feedman and 6 others Thank this. -
How will everyone on the spot market charging the same rate cause people to go out of business? If everyone agrees to charge the same rate then everyone would be getting the same rate.
Right now you guys are dealing with the effects of record numbers of new entrants and a load to truck ratio that is out of whack. Carriers with contracts are hauling more of their loads themselves and they aren’t sending as much to the spot market.Another Canadian driver, Feedman, TheLoadOut and 2 others Thank this. -

Stay patient fellas. Rates will go up. Takes time. The day guys start up with a few dollars and dreams are coming to an end. 2027 trucks will cost a fortune. Working on another new Reefer and they are pricy! F.E.T. doesn’t help! Costs are high and income is not keeping up. Contract freight on rebid are not stellar, push some guys out to pasture and rates will climb a little. Even if the economy stagnates. Just give it a few years. If you can’t hold on a few years… you never had a chance anyway.
No reason to haul less than your worth, take a break. It’s called a slow season. Go fishing, and save all that wear and tear on the equipment. Pick your business opportunities wisely and serve the customer.chimbotano, JoeyJunk, Another Canadian driver and 4 others Thank this. -

Those YouTube trucker stars have all disappeared. Several taught me that this was the easiest money I’d ever make. Now I’m tired, broke a border line alcoholic and found a nail in my steer tire this morning. I got on YouTube for advice from my trucker hero’s but all I found were videos from last year. What Happened to everyone. I thought the ship rolled in. Now we limping around on 17 bald tires with a nail in the 18th…….
