Do you work on your own truck?
What do/dont you do?
Just wondering in case the government gets ridiculous with hours of service and tracking bs. i could open my personal garage up and do most repairs except critical glass, welding, engine and tranny rebuilds.
I could do basics like lights, wiring, brakes, wheel seals, exhaust, grease, oil, tires. maybe road calls for easy stuff.....
Permits and passing tests to do it shouldnt be a problem.
Location is 7 miles off I79 near erie pa.
What percentage of owner operators actually work on their trucks?

Im the only one that does work on my equipment. The only thing I cant do yet is hook up to the ECM on the engine. I drive to a local garage to have them vac and then charge my A/C. It would be cheaper to buy a new truck then pay someone to bumble around under there.

I will do minor repairs.
I think most owner operators go to a shop for anything that isn't easy.
Plus, it is easier for a shop. They have all the tools and a place to work. And have a vehicle to go for parts and know where to get parts.
And often times time is important to make a delivery appointment.
Most truck shops I see seem to be busy.
I think there is work out there if you can advertise. -
Minor repairs; however oil changes get done at speedco 99.9995 percent of the time.

I do little things I know I can do. If I know I cannot do it or have some doubt I'd rater have a shop do it and then I know it's done correct. I only goto 3 shops around my area. I don't trust the others.

I do all of my own work and alot for others, everything from complete rebuilds to check engine light on. I wont hardley just do a PM on anything but mine like the other hand said speedco for 99 bucks. The biggest problem I have with road calls is the having to charge what it takes to make a profit. It cost just as much to run my IH mechanics truck as it does the pete road truck so you tell a guy 500 labor to come to his location diagnose his problem go get parts and work on it say 3 hrs to get him rollin they hit the roof.

I do all my own work from grease jobs to inframes . I have a glass shop that does my glass work .
i won't let them idiots at speedco near my truck . If I break down I get towed to the house instead of getting raped at a stealership . -

I also do it all, including inframe, rebushing the steer axle, king pins, clutch, pulling radiators for cleaning.
Now last year, I pulled my transmission and steering gear box but took them to Power train to have rebuilt. Then reinstalled them myself.
Now after I rebuilt my steer axle, took to an alignment shop. Paid 300 for alignment. Then new steers. 3 months later, tires started wearing on inside. Almost trashed the tires. Checked alignment myself and it was off by almost an inch. And that was from a very reputable local shop. I should've checked it when I got it back from them. Only got 50K out of those steer tires before putting new ones on again.
That'll teach me to do my own alignments.
