While I have the skill to do most routine work on my truck/ trailer, I don't have a place to do it. So I comes down to what I'm able to do in a parking lot with compressed air from my truck or just hand tools.

Later next month I'm having my engine replaced. It's going to be 45 hours of shop labor but I'll be on vacation because for something like that, my time as a driver is worth more than my time as a mechanic. It would easily take me 2 weeks in a rented shop with equipment I don't have.

I do a lot of minor work. Wiring for lights, grease, shocks, air bags, rotate tires, some axle work (brakes, slacks, S-cam bushings, wheel seals, etc).

I do way more that I care too!!! Most the shops by me have a 2-3 week back up and there first come first serve and they want your truck there to get it in line.

What I don't get is we have all broke down out on the road but the shops get is in and out in a few days but when I'm home it takes almost a month. That's the part I don't understand and I'm not getting a better deal at home the detroit shop I use is $110 a hour and the other shop is $95 hour.

ive got to where I do most of my work myself that I can do but I just don't have a way to pull my tranny but I can do about anything else

I don't trust anyone to drive my truck and I don't trust anyone to work on my truck.

I do my own service, lube jobs, etc. If anything needs replacement or repair, (brakes, suspension, etc ) an is not a minor item I take ti to a shop. I have an eps ecopure so my oil changes are limited.
