You dont want an English bulldog in a truck. They have the worst gas possible, in a dog. I'd recomend a bully breed like a Staffordshire terrier (another breed that's lumped under the Pitbull label) they get up maybe 60 pounds, a little more , a little less. Are loveable goofs and adapt pretty easily to most environments and are fun companions and just want to be within 2 feet of you at all times.
Please consider adopting from a shelter (I haven't read every post, sorry if you mentioned this) I fostered Pits before I came back back OUT and it was a great, albeit heartbreaking, experience

One on left, Indiana Bones, 5 years as navi-dog. Retired. One on right, Bloo, 5 years a navi-dog. He passed four weeks ago. Both were shelter dogs. Bloo was beaten and starved so badly he spent two weeks at the vet before we could take him home. He was the best dog we've ever had.

Full blood brindle pit in the center is still a pup and in training. Her name is Bean.

I love pits and all the dogs lumped into that category. Unfortunately being in the Baltimore area they have gotten such a bad rap our insurance and where we live forbid them. It's a shame because there are so many lovable ones at the shelter. Going to the shelter to meet an Australian cattle dog. We'll see....

Great looking dogs! I've lost friends and I've lost dogs, usually dogs are tougher to deal with. My sympathies for Bloo.
Mine, Beauregard, started as a rescue and he was so eager to please and so strong that I trained him to pull my 280 lb disabled butt up stairs, anchor me for the decent, provide a stable base to lean on if I fall and can't get back up, and all on his own he learned to wake me up when I stop breathing (sleep apnea). He is now a service animal under the true definition provided by the ADA, which allows me to take him almost anywhere and never be charged extra by a hotel.
Dogs are amazing!!!! I prefer their company to most people's.

I have both. Only dog rides with me occasionally, though. Cats stay home. ;)

We have both too. But the dogs protect the home.
