I think you should indulge her, Tom.
Start with a 55 or 90gal - you'll learn a ton; she'll be happy... Definitely works out in your favor. ;). Lol.

You're probably right, man. I gotta finish building this (these) rooms first (as I sit here and type, LoL.) I probably will, man. Probably will. :)

    ps: Salt or Freshwater, tho?

Yes,like Chinatown said, you should get a dog that doesn't she'd a lot or overheat easily. Also one that's not hyper and needs a lot of excercise. Not an overly agrees I've dog ( that might bite an inspector),but one that will guard the truck.I got a dog from the shelter. It's sad if no one adopts these dogs (they put them down)after a while. Most shelters will let you walk them and window shop. You can tell pretty quickly what the dog is like.If it charges the cage ,teeth out, barking (skip this dog).Need a Healthy dog to start,a smart dog.Breed is up to you.JMO

Fresh (tropical) is easier - generally, but being a Florida gal and from your description - she's going to want salt (marine).

They are great. Sorry for the loss, Hawk.

Runner up to the Maine Shag: Tonkinese. They're friendly - gregarious, chatty - will talk back, and they're solid (thick boned, heavy cats).

I love saltwater but they are a ton of work! Closest thing is an African Cichlid. Had a tank with 12 of them. Very cool and not as much work. This is not my tank but close to what we had. a2902c6c593f17f5e35011961c7980e5.jpg

Cichlids (sick-lid) are awesome to keep - hard water African fish, generally small, also mean as #### because they're hyper territorial. The only way around the aggression is if they're a 'schooling' type of fish... but not many cichlids are, they prefer being solitary.

Have you ever kept an Oscar (prob the biggest of the cichlids)?
I had two in a 55, no other inhabitants.... One decided to commit suicide (jumped out of the tank, found him stiffer than Ron Jeremy's crank hours after the fact).... The other lived to his average.... I started calling him A-hole after the suicide. Lol.

Never had Oscars. I never had one get out. The aquarium store where we got them warned me. I had it locked down! Lol. I did however go on vacation. Had a neighbor keep an eye on the tank for us. When I got home I noticed the tank kind of stunk. I started counting fish and noticed one was missing. If you've had Cichlids you know they like to rearrange their tank. Apparently one was burrowing and the rocks fell on him. Spent the next week trying to get that tank back right. Not to mention lost one of my favorite fish!
