The signature ISX 600 was the worst engine ever made.
For real pre emission engines being with out EGR valves.
The CATs have most long lived durability.

The series 60 will get the best MPG. Up to rebuild time at 1million miles.

The Cummins will have the most bark and last pretty long, and get decent fuel.

The Mack engines well they are like no other.

Honestly you may be on to something
8 inch stacks will smooth any engine out, but the cummins n14 and NTC has a unique sound. I'm a series 60 fan odd thing is the ddec 1,2, and 3 sings like a CAT 3406 with strait pipes.

The 3406B and C are quiet with straights compared to the electronic engines. I don't run a resonator or muffler of any kind on either one of mine. Yes they have a low smooth tone, but loud is something they ain't even with the Jake's on

Im not too much on loud i like more of a rumble i love the v8s that grumble... Cats have a nice rumble lower tone anothet reason i love em. Cant beat a c15 6nz with some 8's coming down off a moutain around 1500 or 1600 rpm... Once you go Cat you cant go back or at least i didnt go back willing lol i was talking to my papa today he hauls fuel and has a 2012 kw and it has been in the shop so much... he said that he got in the older 02 rig that has a cat and that the thing pulled waaaaay better and it doesnt blow blue smoke every where same thing happend to the rig my dad was in a pete same engine as the kw my papa (grandfather) the rigs had mx 13s and the dpf needs to be taken out and baked.

The bigger diameter the pipe the quieter one gets. But the deeper it gets as well. Smaller the pipe will bring more chop to the sound.

Timing has alot to do with how much noise a B will make. There is an ol sayin "#### he sure is making alot of noise not be be going anywhere."
