Im gonna try to answer all these questions.
Yes you started a thread on pre emission motors. I brought up my engine because in your blanket statement you said CAT. Not pre emission cat, so i guess that couldbe taken as me being petty.
The whole spill about driving stick was because you come off as a person who drive based on looking at yur tach and not whats coming up. Like a person that only drive by motor statistics and not the terrain yur driving.
I never said i fall under peak torque at 1400, you must not have read everything i wrote. If i did miss type and say that, my bad.
65 is about 1500 in this truck.

Once in top gear, i have no doubt any rig can get some semblance of good fuel mileage because yur boost is up and can play with the rpms.

I feel you have misunderstood most of what i have said this whole time and i dont have the time to explain my whole thought process of driving this truck.

Ill leave you with this. I hope you keep the vigor you have now when you turn 21 and hopefully get yur cdl. I hope you learn to drive and shift gears well. I hope you learn to be patient when hauling heavy loads. I hope you never lose a load. So good luck on yur trucking venture. The only advice i know for certain is that you should never let the 4 wheelers behind you determine how fast you take a corner or slow down. Its yur load, yur decision.

Drive well my friend. I apologize for any arogance that mightve come across from my posts. I simply was trying to explain why a blanket statement can be wrong. Good day

I agree but im saying that our average is crap when we leave the hills and we ahve to drop gears heck we were down to 7th (9 speeds trans). Trucks also ran alot slower and got worse mpg too.

I have never saw a truck that did posted speed limits get better tha 5.5 mpg avg. Especially if your in the hills, or wind all day loaded to Max gross.

I run 11R24.5's with a 15 over against the dash trans. Pulling a hopper which is grossed out on weight everyday I see close to 6. With a cattle pot I will see 4.9 to 5.2 depending on wind and what part of the world I'm in as well as how hard I am on the throttle. I don't run your average B model by any means.
I top hills at close to the same speed as most other guys with 3.55's and a 13. With 3.36's I can stay in direct up to 70mph which helps on fuel.

FWIW a CAT doesn't use EGR valves. They IVA valves that hold the intake valves open for a certain duration of the exhaust stroke which recycles exhaust gas back through the intake.

Kid, with all due respect, its not about what to say. Sometimes its about when not to say anything. I was a smart gearhead at your age. Older I got more I knew, I didnt know sheet compared to some. Engine is a Engine. Fuel goes in power comes out. No one, no one does the exact same thing. Hell I dont from week to year. What works for one, dont work for others. I am not a Cat guy. Cats are Wores bread and butter. That dont make him wrong to me. It gives me respect that he does the best he knows with what works for him. Most will tell me Im wrong for spinning a Detroit like I do. But it works for me. The original idea of hot rodding is going against the grain and building what works for you, because no one builds them. You cant argue whats right and wrong for anything except your particular situation. Fleets will teach you how to save money, owner ops will teach you how to make money.

Good luck, someday you will understand like the rest of us. Just hope its not a expensive lesson. Hope you learn it younger than some of us.

Ill do things my way and drive how i want but there is a right and wrong way to drive em ok if not then why di weh nt go dive lika da jamicaa truka ehh
If you run it up to red line and shift is that right or wrong? Most people would say wrong, now he can drive it how he wants but all i said is what works good for me and my dad. He got pissed and said that was wrong so did wore out. If you drive a engine hard it will last a lesser time correct ? If you go easy on it,it will return the favor. Detriots i will say do seem to like a higher rpm BUT not to say that it wont go at 1400 but it likes 1500 or 1600 better different motors drive different but there is a basic idea for how to shift and if you understand the mechanics behind it and learn that excesive rpm is waste then you will find better mpg and someimes better power. A truck pulling a hill at 1500 rpm will achieve better pulling power and mpg than a truck at 1900 rpm why becuase peak toque is at 1300 rpm on this truck (just spit balling here not talking specific engine) and at 1900 rpm torque has dropped. learn to look at the charts it shows where torque is and isnt. it isnt at higher rpms its down low but i agree anything less than 1300 is bad for a engine for long periods of time. In the words of Hank JR "You do your thing and we'll do our thing too!! "
