LOL, I love my cats, BUT if for some unforseen reason I had to run the lower 48 again, their would be a detroit under the hood, UNLESS I was pulling heavy haul, and not even sure about that.

It has been years since I have had a shop work on one, but I had 969,000 on my international, my driver on my T800 wanted to take 30 days off. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my engine, but in those days my main gig was running back and forth to Alaska. I knew eventually I would break down, and with my luck, it would be somewhere with a 5 or 10 thousand dollar tow bill, so I took it to stewart and stevenson in Lubbock and had it inframed. It costs me 8500 at the time and that was with a new head and all new valve train. I changed the speedo so am not certain the exact miles on that thing, need to have the ecm checked. I estimate some where around 1.4 million and to this day it has all but two of the original injectors, and the original turbo.
I have changed the alt twice, water pump twice (long story, but once it was not needed) thermostats once, ac comp 3 or 4 times, both timing sensors once, only one went out and one clutch.

That has been the cheapest engine by far, I have ever owned, actually the whole truck. It isn't no cat, but it is no slouch either. That truck sits outside and I never crank it in the winter, once it warms up to around 30 degrees in the spring, all I ever have to do is reach in, turn the key and push the start button and she fires up. If I needed to go to Florida tomorrow, I would bring it in, change the air bags, service it, register it and leave out, without a worry.

Let me explain a little about how cats like to be driven and i habe had serveral guys who have driven cats all there life agree with me.
On flat ground shift between 1300 and 1500 so lets say 1400 because thats between the lug and the high rpm spot
So basically say you have a 18 speed
Start in 2L and then at 1100 shift to 3L then to go to 4L shift at 1200 then shift to 5L at 1300 then when you go into high range shift between 1400 and 1500 then split up at 1350 or 1400 then shift at between 1400 and 1500 to go to 6H
Basically if you start in 1L shift at 1000 and add 100 rpm till you hit the high range then shift at 1300 to 1400 for splits and between 1400 and 1500 for full gear changes with 3.55 rear ends and 24.5 tires you can get between 6.5 to 7 mpg just dont do more than 70 or 75 heck the tires are only rated for 70

I would have thought better mpg than that. I have seen them in the 6-7 range and good power.

My last few with my green motor, you can tell what wagon Im pulling by the numbers. But winter fuel and cold average temps. Plus you have seen my scales slips.
