I just finished week one of four of class/training. Once I passed the state written test I posted the best resume I could muster (with only one week of training and a few years hauling a go-kart trailer) on newtruckingjobs.com.
I received 8 requests for an application, the very next day. My problem is that I have no idea what to ask during recruitment meetings.
So far I have:
Is there tuition reimbursement, and at what rate? (definitely won't be the first thing I ask, hehehehe)
What are their training procedures, and typical lengths for average rookie drivers?
Do I need to commit to staying a certain period? (I understand that quitting/leaving soon after being hired is bad on the DAC. Just like any job) But could there possibly be financial penalties, like canceling a cell phone contract early?
Mileage pay?
Home time? (the wife would like me home, but I want to get bills caught up. So that is not a priority with me.)
Obviously, experience requirements.
Truck accessories? Satellite radio/internet access... what else?
So what else can I ask them without getting thrown out!!!
thanks for any help.

Make yourself a list of questions that are important to you. A lot of the websites have some of that stuff already listed but I wouldn't hesitate to ask anything. The recruiters job is to tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to orientation! The home time question will get you the same answer every time. "We have great home time" You will rarely here "six weeks out mandatory and good luck arguing with your dispatcher to get you a load going home"! (sorry just messin with you a bit)
You are going to get your best answers to your questions in talking with drivers from the companies you are interested in. Most of the stuff generalized stuff you ask from the recruiters is going to be all the same. Great home time, up to date modern equipment, drivers are averaging 2500-3500 miles per week, blah, blah, blah.
Ask the recruiters about your personal record such as your mvr and do you definitely qualify. You don't want to go to orientation and end up being sent home on a technicality. Good luck to you, stay away from the mega-carriers and your chance of success will be much greater!

don't let them give you the run around answers like "top pay", or "great home time". top to who? great to who? get numbers, and post them back here, otherwise you won't know until its too late.
