Also find out how long the truck has been sitting. Lack of regular use will make any truck prone to wheel seal failure.
What questions should i ask dealer about truck?

#1 the K/W even if it has not been inframed yet will be worth putting the over/haul $ in it later after you have put some mi. on it and have more money in bank!

Thank you all, I'm looking to buy a rig too and this really help. Hoping to see more advise on this thread. I'm sure there should be more than just the sample oil.

I'd avoid the Freightliner. Its missing a chrome bezel on the left side air cleaner light bar. No good.

You'll want to ask who had the truck before. Considering oilfield went in the toilet there are a lot of sand haulers, etc that put trucks up for sale. A truck that has been abused off roading in the oil patch for 100k miles will likely be in worse condition than one that has been on the interstate for 500k. But former mega fleet trucks are built on the cheap and usually show it. I have bought many trucks and have learned by making mistakes that you need to spend lots of time asking these questions about a truck before you own it. Hard to say based on ads which truck of the two to recommend. I know that it can be easy to get stars in your eyes when you want to buy one so I woud take a mechanically competent friend with you to help look over the trucks in person.

Honestly. I'd all you have is ten thousand available, no matter what truck you but, you take a very big risk of going under. that's just simply not enough cash flow.

Most any truck you will buy will need all fan belts replaced, if thats all mec. found wrong everything looks good if fin. goes thru?

For how long they have been in the yard.
Things you can look for if it has been sitting for a while, dry hoses, small cracked hoses, air suspension components.
Start it up and let it run for a while and try looking for some leaks, good brake test(for compressor). Skeaky belts, air leaks.
Also what everybody else wrote...
Engine wise never bought a n14. Had 3 c15, strong engine, pulls hard. All 3 got from 1,5 to 1,8 milion miles before I sold them.
Average around 5.5 mpg hauling road train . 25k in each box.
