Well, I can tell you that on my current Pete mx13 455hp, at 65mph in 13th top gear @1300rpm I run WAY cooler than if I drop a gear to 12th @1600rpm... and a noticeable drop in fuel mileage and increase in noise. Not only a change in oil temp., but a much higher coolant temp as well. So for me... 1600rpm + of continuous running does NOT work . I recently (2-3 days ago), tried this.

Same with E-7 Mack. 1550-1650 is the sweet spot for cruising. If i put it in the big hole 1400 at 65 I end up using more fuel than just leaving it in .73 instead of the tall .62

It takes more boost and intern more heat is produced trying to keep up speed. At 1600 i use less boost and hardly have to push on the pedal to keep rolling.

Same deal with newer engines. Just the power band has moved down in the rpm range a tad

They'd probably whine about the straight pipes and not being able to hear their DVD playing on the dash... then complain because their flip flops won't stay put riding in a non air ride cab. I'm sure the red button on the shifter would stump a few as well.

Why you trying to go 65 miles per hour in that truck? They make 200 horsepower white Volvos for a reason.

Have you ever driven an actual 200ish hp truck? Most of them are geared so low you get 55 at 2100, 65 is just a pipe dream
